Ratlami Namkeen

You can find Ratlami Namkeen over at Damodar Niwas, which is A-29 on Palace Road. It’s an old building, but it’s sturdy and gives us plenty of room to work. We specialize in namkeen, which is something we’ve been around our whole lives. Palace Road is a nice area, a bit more open than some of the other parts of town. We use part of the building for storage and the other part for our daily business. There’s always a smell of spices in the air here, which is something visitors usually notice right away. We don't have a big corporate structure. It’s mostly just family and a couple of helpers who have been with us for years. We spend our days weighing out portions and making sure the bags are sealed properly. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the afternoon fixing them ourselves. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s what we do. We don't talk about missions or visions; we just talk about whether the batch we made today tastes like it should. If the spice mix isn't right, we know it immediately. People come from the other side of town just because they like the way we do things at Damodar Niwas. We just keep the doors open and keep working. Sometimes the phone rings too much, but we answer it anyway and see what people need.
