Out here in Chowderypally, at Sy. No. 220, things move a bit slower than in the city. Sri Sai Lakshmi Cold Storage is where we spend our days, mostly dealing with the crates and the temperature gauges. It’s a big building in the Yacharam area, and you can’t miss it if you’re driving through the village. The air inside is always crisp, which is a relief when it’s hot outside in the Rangareddy district. We spend a lot of time moving things in and out of the cold rooms. It’s not a glamorous job. There’s a lot of checking the power and making sure the insulation is holding up. Farmers and local traders come by quite a bit to drop off their stuff. We know most of them by name since we’ve been here a while. Sometimes the yard gets crowded with tractors and trucks, especially during the harvest season. We try to keep things moving so no one is waiting too long. It’s a lot of physical labor, stacking bags and keeping the floors clean. We don't have a big marketing team or a fancy website. It’s just us here, keeping the cold units running and making sure the produce stays fresh for as long as needed. It gets quiet at night, but during the day, there’s always someone shouting directions or checking a manifest. It’s just a practical place for people who need to keep their goods from spoiling while they wait for better market prices.
