Shankar Nursery

Shankar Nursery is situated over in Bel Bagan, specifically in the Lowadih Samlong area. We are quite close to Nirmala School, so we hear the school bells and the kids shouting during their break times. It’s a nice change from the usual city noise. Most of our day is spent outside with the plants and the soil. Our hands are usually dirty and we spend a lot of time watering things and moving pots around the yard. The ground can get quite muddy when it rains, so we wear old boots most of the time. We have all sorts of stuff growing in different sections. It’s not a perfectly manicured garden, it’s more of a working nursery where things are in various stages of growth. Some days are slow and we just trim the leaves, while other days we are busy loading up trucks for deliveries. The weather really dictates what we do. If it’s too hot, we stay in the shade of the bigger trees for a bit to rest. People from the neighborhood often stop by just to look around or ask questions about their own gardens. We don’t have a big office, just a small shed where we keep our tools and take our lunch. It’s a quiet life here near the school. We just focus on keeping the greenery alive and making sure the plants are healthy enough to move on to new homes.
