Research & Development Centre For Iron And Steel, Sail

You can find us over at A-112 in the Sail Satellite Township in Ranchi. This is the R&D center where we look at iron and steel for SAIL. It’s a pretty quiet spot compared to the center of town. The township has a lot of trees and it’s a bit more relaxed, which helps when you’re trying to focus on technical data. Our building is full of labs and different testing equipment that we use every day. It’s not really a public office; it’s more for the engineers and researchers who work here. We spend a lot of time looking at samples and trying to figure out how to make things better or more efficient. Sometimes the work is repetitive, like running the same test fifty times, but that’s how research goes. Most of us have lived and worked in this township for years, so it feels like a small village where everyone knows everyone else. We wear our lab coats and follow the safety rules because that’s just how it is with steel work. There isn’t a lot of excitement here, just steady progress and a lot of note-taking. We have our meetings in the morning and then everyone goes off to their stations. It’s a practical environment focused on the materials. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs to be done for the company.
