P.R. Modi & Sons Textile Private Limited is tucked away on Suresh Babu Street in the Upper Bazar area of Ranchi. If you’ve ever been to Upper Bazar, you know how tight the lanes are and how busy it gets. We’ve been here for quite a while. Our building is old, with narrow stairs and lots of history in the walls. We deal in textiles, mostly wholesale stuff that goes out to smaller shops. The street is always full of rickshaws and people carrying bundles of cloth. It can be quite a headache to get a vehicle through, so we do a lot of heavy lifting by hand. We aren't looking to be the biggest company out there. We just want to keep the family name going and serve the people who come to us. The fans hum all day to keep us cool, and we usually have a stack of bills on the desk that needs sorting. We know our customers by name, and they know us. Sometimes we sit on the floor to look at new stocks because there isn't enough table space. It’s just the way things are done in the old part of town. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just show up, open the shutters, and start the day. It’s a lot of work but it’s our life.
