Nidhi Jan Kalyan Foundation

Our foundation is over at Ambika Dangi’s place in Belahar. It’s in the Pathalgadda area, which is a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the main towns. The zip code is 825408, but out here, people mostly go by landmarks and who lives where. Nidhi Jan Kalyan Foundation doesn’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It is just a modest setup in a house where we can sit down and get our work finished. The roads out here aren't always the best, especially when the rains come and everything turns to mud, but we manage to get around. It is a very rural area, so you hear the cows and the birds more than you hear cars. We spend a lot of our time just talking to the neighbors and the folks from the surrounding villages. Most days, we are just busy with the basic stuff, keeping track of things in our registers and making sure everyone who stops by gets some water or tea. It’s quiet work, nothing too exciting, but it keeps us busy. The sun sets early behind the hills here, so we usually finish up while there’s still some light left. We’ve lived in this part of Jharkhand all our lives, so we don't mind the slow pace of things. It’s just us doing what we can from a small room in Belahar, just trying to keep the day-to-day things moving along.
