We are set up in Vill-Pasai, which is near Nardiganj in the Nawada district. It is a rural area of Bihar, so things move at a much different pace here than they do in the cities. Our office is just a simple room in the village where Mr. Nawal Kishor Singh looks after the daily records and the worker logs. Most of our time is spent out in the open fields or at the building sites. We have to deal with the thick mud when it rains and the brutal heat in the summer months. It is not an easy place for construction, but we always make it work. We have a lot of local guys who come in to help us with the digging and the carrying. We do not have any fancy mission statements or corporate goals. We just try to get the projects done on time. Sometimes the materials do not show up when they should because the roads are in bad shape, so we have to be very flexible with our schedule. We spend a lot of time talking to the neighbors and making sure we are not causing too much of a mess for them. It is a practical job. We use a lot of cement and sand, and we are always looking for good quality stone for the foundations. It is a lot of manual work and checking the blueprints by the light of a torch sometimes. We just keep at it until the roof is on. That is what we do here.
