Might General Store

We are located right at Anand Puri Chowk on Harmu Road here in Ranchi. Might General Store has been a fixture on this corner for a long time. It’s a busy road so there’s always a lot of dust and honking. I spend a lot of my morning just dusting off the packets on the shelves. It’s a one-room shop basically, filled from floor to ceiling. I don’t have a fancy system for finding things, I just know where everything is because I put it there myself. People from the neighborhood come in for their daily milk or some biscuits. Ranchi weather changes fast so we’re always moving things inside when it rains. I usually have a radio playing in the background to pass the time. It’s mostly just me behind the counter. I don't really do much advertising. People just know we are here at the chowk. The shutters go up at eight and stay up until nine at night. Sometimes I get tired of standing all day but that’s the job. We keep the basics, nothing too high-end. It’s a practical place for practical people. I like the routine of it. Seeing the same faces every day makes the time go by. It’s not a corporate chain, just a local shop trying to stay stocked up for the folks nearby. We’ve seen the road change over the years but the shop stays the same.
