Mahavir General Store

People know us here on Circular Road. It's Mahavir General Store. We've been in Ranchi for a long time. Mostly it's just keeping things stocked. Rice, pulses, soaps, the usual stuff. Sometimes the truck comes late and we have to wait around. It gets busy in the mornings when folks are heading to work or dropping kids off. The floor needs a sweep pretty often because of the dust from the road outside. We have these old shelves that have been here forever. They hold everything from matches to big bags of flour. It isn’t a fancy place. We just open up early and stay until the evening. Sometimes customers stay and talk for a bit too long while others are waiting, but that's how it is in a neighborhood shop. The 834001 area is always moving. My hands usually have a bit of dust on them from moving crates around all day. We try to keep what people need so they don't have to go far. If we run out of something, we write it down on a piece of cardboard and try to get it by next week. It’s just us here, making sure the jars are full and the change is ready in the drawer. The fan in the corner makes a clicking sound but it keeps us cool enough when the Ranchi heat kicks in. We don't have a computer for billing, just the old ledger books where we write everything down. It works for us.
