Choudhari Store

You can find us at the Kishoreganj Chowk, right by the Devi Mandap in Ranchi. The Choudhari Store has been a fixture here for quite some time, sitting right where the streets get busy. It is a straightforward kind of shop. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles. Most of our day is spent weighing out grains or helping someone find the right kind of spice for their dinner. The intersection is always loud with horns and people shouting, which makes the shop feel very alive. We have a lot of regular customers who have been coming to us since they were kids. Now they bring their own children in for a small treat or some school supplies. We keep the inventory simple—mostly food items, some toiletries, and the odd household tool. The shelves are made of simple plywood and we have to reorganize them pretty often to make space for new stock. It gets hot in the summer, and the breeze from the door is the only thing that keeps us cool. We don't use a computer for anything; we just know our prices and our people. It is a busy life at the chowk, and there is never a dull moment. We just focus on getting the orders right and making sure everyone gets what they came for before they head back out. It is just how things have been for us for a long time and we don't expect it to change soon.
