You can find us at Kuldeep Mehta’s house, number 1585, over in Charwa Pelawal. That’s in the Katkamsandi area. We don’t have a big sign with flashing lights. It’s just a regular house where we do our work. Most of the people who come to see us are from the nearby streets and farms. We started this because there wasn't a convenient place for folks around here to handle their small savings. We aren't a big institution with branches everywhere. We are just right here in this one spot. We spend our days filling out forms and talking to members about their plans. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to work by the light from the window, but we don't mind. It’s part of living here. We handle loans too, mostly for things like weddings or fixing up a shop. We don’t use any of those confusing financial words. We just tell you how it is in plain English or the local tongue. It’s a very grounded way of doing things. We know that trust is the most important thing in a village like ours. We see our members at the market and at the local gatherings, so we have to be straight with everyone. It’s just a group of people in Katkamsandi looking out for each other and making sure everyone has a place to keep their money safe.
