Ayaksma

Our place is called Ayaksma and we are over at the Dhanwantri Ayurved Kendra. It’s a quiet spot where we focus on traditional ways of doing things. We have shelves full of jars and different herbs. The smell of the place is quite distinct because of all the natural materials we use. We spend a lot of time preparing things by hand. It’s not a fast process. We’ve been following these methods for a long time. People come in looking for something to help them feel better or just to talk about their health. We sit down and listen. It’s not like a modern hospital where everyone is in a rush. We take our time. The building itself is simple and we keep it as clean as we can. We aren't trying to sell anything fancy. We just use what has been used for generations. Some days are busier than others, especially in the mornings. We don’t have a big staff. It’s just a few of us who know the plants and the recipes. We spend our afternoons sorting through new arrivals of roots and leaves. It’s steady, quiet work. We don’t use computers for everything; a lot of it is still written down in books. It’s just how we’ve always done it here at the Kendra. People usually find what they are looking for after a little while. It is a slow pace, but we like it that way.
