Al Geber Foundation

Our place is in Pundag, which is a part of Ranchi in Jharkhand. You can find our spot right near the I.S.M. Gate. It’s a familiar landmark for anyone living in this area. The foundation is managed by the family of Mr. Guljar Hussain. We started this because we wanted to have a place where people in Ranchi could come for some support without feeling like they were dealing with a big, cold institution. Most of our work is pretty straightforward social service. We don't have a huge staff or a lot of equipment. It’s mostly just us and a few volunteers from the neighborhood. Some days it’s quiet and we’re just catching up on paperwork, and other days the place is full of people asking about local programs or looking for help with school stuff for their kids. Being near the gate means we get a lot of foot traffic. Ranchi is growing fast, but some parts of Pundag still feel like a tight-knit community. We try to keep that feeling going. We don't use any fancy words to describe what we do. We just help. If someone needs something and we have it, we share it. If we don’t have it, we try to find out who does. It’s been a learning curve for us since we opened, but we’re getting the hang of it. It’s just about being good neighbors and staying active in the community as things change around us.
