Our spot is in Ranaghat village, within the Pandua block of Hooghly. Srijani Ekta Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically a group of local farmers who decided to stick together. "Ekta" means unity, and that’s really what we are about, just staying together as a group. Pandua is a busy area, but our village is a bit more relaxed. We don't have any corporate polish or big-city ideas. We just know how to farm. Most of our days are spent checking on the crops or talking to the other members about what to do next. It’s a very practical life. We meet up in a small building in Ranaghat to settle our accounts and plan for the next month. There are always chores to do, and there’s never enough time to do them all. We don't use any fancy language when we talk to each other. It’s just plain English or the local tongue. We worry about the same things every farmer worries about: the rain, the pests, and the prices. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall. We just have a calendar and some notebooks. It’s a humble way to work, but it suits us just fine. We’ve been here a long time, and we plan on staying. Hooghly is our home, and the soil here is our livelihood.
