Start with the village of Milak. It is Ward No- 2. The Ram Leela Ground is just right there. We spend most days here among the hammers and paint tins. It gets busy during the festival season because of the ground nearby. People come in looking for nails or a specific shade for their walls. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside for a bit on the plastic chairs. My father used to handle things differently, but now I am here. We have got stacks of brushes and pipes leaning against the back wall. It is not a fancy place, just a regular shop in the middle of town. The dust from the road settles on the counters every morning, so the first thing we do is wipe everything down. We know most people by name because the district of Rampur is like that. If someone needs a bucket for their well or some cement to fix a leak, they stop by. We do not have a big office or anything, just the front desk and the storage in the back. The neighborhood stays pretty active until late evening. We keep the shutters open as long as there is light. It feels good to be part of the village life here. Sometimes we run out of certain items because the delivery truck gets stuck, but that is just how it goes. We try to keep the basic things everyone needs for their homes and repair work.
