Gurukaen Exports

If you come down to Valayapookulam in Kamuthi Tk, you will find us working out of our warehouse. It is a bit of a drive from the main city, but this is where we have everything set up. Most of our days are spent coordinating with the loaders and making sure the export containers are packed tight. It gets really hot in this part of the region, so we usually start as early as possible before the sun gets too intense. We have a small desk tucked in the corner where we keep all the logs, but mostly we are out on the floor. The floors are concrete and get pretty scuffed up from the pallets being dragged across. We don't have any fancy receptionists or anything like that. If the phone rings, whoever is closest just picks it up. We’ve had some trouble with the roof leaking during the monsoon, so we spent last week patching that up. It’s just us doing what we can with the space we have. The trucks come and go at all hours, so sometimes we’re here late finishing up a manifest. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s honest work and it keeps the community moving. We mostly just talk about the local news and the price of fuel while we work. The radio stays on in the background, usually playing some old tunes that everyone knows. It helps pass the time when we are doing repetitive tasks.
