L C Bricks

Out here in Agalakote Village, things are pretty quiet compared to the city. L C Bricks is located at 247/98, and it’s basically just a big yard where we work with the clay and the kilns. Magadi can get really hot, especially in the afternoons, so we start our day as early as we can. It’s dirty work, and there is always dust on everything. We don't wear anything fancy, just old clothes that we don't mind getting ruined. My cousin and I run most of it. We have a few local men who help with the heavy lifting and loading the trucks. We don't have a computer system or anything like that. Everything is written down in a big ledger that sits on a wooden table. Sometimes the rain makes the ground too soft to work, and we just have to sit and wait for it to dry out. People from around the village come by when they are building a wall or a small shed. We don’t do much talking, mostly just working. The truck is old and rattles a lot, but it gets the bricks where they need to go. We stay until the sun starts to set. It’s a hard life but it’s ours. Being at 247/98 is just where we belong. We don't need much more than the land and the work we do every day.
