Shree Shaibhaba Stree Shakthi Shg

Our village of Honganuru is where we started Shree Shaibhaba Stree Shakthi Shg. It sits in the Virupakshipura area, not too far from Channapattana. Since Channapattana is famous for wooden toys, many of us have seen that kind of work since we were little girls. We aren't a big business, just a few local women who didn't want to just sit at home all day. Finding something useful to do with our time was the main goal. Most mornings are busy with cooking and cleaning, so we usually meet up in the afternoon. We talk about what we can make or sell to bring in some extra cash for our families. It isn’t always easy since we don't have fancy tools and the electricity cuts out a lot. We don’t have some grand plan; we just take things as they come. While some of us are good at sewing, others prefer to look after the books and the savings. Learning new things from each other is part of the fun. In a small village like ours, everyone knows your name, so we really have to stick together. We aren't trying to get rich, we just like having a little bit of our own money. Helping our husbands or kids when they need something gives us a good feeling. We just do our daily work and hope things go well for the group. We are happy with how it’s going. It is good to have friends you can rely on for work and for life.
