If you walk down the Kankroli Railway Station Road, you will find our place. It’s Kamal Enginering. We have been here for a while now. The sound of the trains passing by is something we hear all day long. Sometimes the ground even shakes a little when the heavy freight ones go past. It is a dusty road, especially when the wind picks up, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the machines. Our shop is filled with bits of metal and tools lying around. It’s not the cleanest place, but it is where we work. We mostly do small jobs for people in the area. We have a couple of old lathes and some drills that have been with us since the start. They are loud but they still get the job done right. My cousin helps out in the afternoon when things get busy. We usually have our lunch sitting on the wooden crates in the back. The tea shop across from the station makes good ginger tea, so we go there twice a day. We don't really have a big sign out front, just the name painted on the door. People know where we are because of the station. It is a simple life here. We work when there is work and talk to the regulars when it is quiet. The roof leaks a bit during the monsoon, but we just move the machines around to keep them dry. It is not perfect, but it is ours.
