Painter M. Khatri

I’ve been working out of Sak Market in Rajpipla for quite some time now. Most people around the Narmada district know this area well because it gets quite crowded during the day. My name is M. Khatri and my shop is mostly just a place where I keep my ladders, paint cans, and different types of brushes. It isn't a fancy showroom or anything. There is usually a bit of dust from the road. Stains cover the floor where I’ve mixed colors over the years. Morning time is for checking supplies and making sure everything is ready before I head out to a job. Sometimes people stop by just to ask about prices or to see if I’m free next week. While sitting on the small stool by the door, I usually have a cup of tea. The market can be very noisy with the bikes and the vendors shouting nearby. It’s just the way things are here. Having grown up in this part of the country, the heat doesn't bother me much, though April and May get a bit tough. No big advertisements are done here. People just see the sign or hear about me from someone else in the neighborhood. It’s a simple way to make a living and it keeps me busy enough from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes I stay late just to clean up the brushes properly so they don't get ruined.
