Govt. Rani Avantibai Lodhi College Ghumka

Ghumka is a pretty quiet spot most of the time. This place, Govt. Rani Avantibai Lodhi College, is located out here on the road that leads toward Harduwa. It is a government college, so things are run in a very specific, no-frills way. The building is solid and looks like many of the other government offices in the Rajnandgaon district. Students come from all the small villages around here to attend classes. Most of them have to take a bus or walk quite a distance. The road out front gets a bit muddy when the monsoon rains start. We have a few trees in the courtyard where students sit when they are not in a lecture. It is a lot more peaceful here than in the middle of Rajnandgaon city. The staff sits in the main office and handles all the paperwork and admissions. There is not much to say about the decor because it is strictly functional. We offer the standard courses you would expect. A lot of the young people here are the first ones in their families to go to college. They bring their lunch boxes and sit under the shade of the trees during the break. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or so in the afternoon. We just keep the windows open to let the breeze in. It is a long way from the main town, but people find their way here. Life moves at a slower pace in Gram Ghumka.
