If you go to Morvi in Gujarat, you’ll find us at Synthetic Marble Ind. We use a post box for a lot of our mail, specifically Box 87, because things can get a bit dusty and hectic around here. We work with materials that look like marble but are actually made through a specific process we’ve had for years. Morvi is famous for ceramics and tiles, so we fit right in with the industrial atmosphere of the town. The work is physical and sometimes messy. We spend a lot of time on the factory floor checking the molds and making sure the mixtures are exactly right. It isn’t the kind of job where you wear a suit. Most of us are in work clothes that end up covered in stone dust by noon. We’ve got a good group of local workers who know the machines really well. We don’t really do much advertising; people usually find us through word of mouth or because they’ve seen our products in other buildings. The heat in Gujarat can be intense in the summer, but the fans in the workshop keep us going. We just focus on making blocks and slabs that people want for their homes or offices. It’s a simple business, really. We make things, we sell them, and we try to do it right every time. It is hard work but it pays the bills.
