Our workshop is at Survey No. 26, sharing the space with Soham Metal. It’s a bit out of the main way, so it’s usually quiet until we start working. Soham Light is a small operation. We have a few workbenches and some basic tools. The roof is made of tin sheets, so it gets quite hot in the summer months. We usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too high. There’s a big tree outside where we keep our bicycles. The floor is concrete and always has some scrap metal lying around. We try to keep it clean, but work is messy. It’s just two or three of us working here most days. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting area. If someone comes by, they just walk right in and talk to us. We’ve been in this spot for a few years now. The land around here is mostly industrial, so there aren't many shops nearby. We bring our own lunch boxes and eat together at the main table. It’s a simple way of living. We just focus on making things and making sure they work right. There’s no big secret to what we do. We just show up, do the work, and go home. It’s a steady routine and we like it that way. Often we stay late if a big job comes in. We like the quiet nights.
