Shri Natraj Patola Art

Our place is over at No. 4 Dasi Jivanpara in the Suvas Society. We are right on Nanamova Main Road, pretty close to the Sanskruty Apartment and Akshar Marg. It’s a busy spot in the city. We do Patola art here. It’s a lot of sitting down and focusing on the patterns. We don't have a big factory. It’s more of a workshop where we spend our hours. The looms take up most of the space. It’s been a family thing for a long time. We don’t use any big fancy words for what we do. We just take the threads and try to make them look right. Some days the colors don’t turn out exactly how we thought, so we start over. It takes a lot of patience. People in the society know us as the ones who are always working with silk and dyes. We aren't trying to be the biggest business in town. We just want to finish the work we have on the bench. The area around Akshar Marg has changed a lot, but our little corner stays mostly the same. We have a few windows that let in the light which helps when we are looking at the fine details of the fabric. It’s quiet work for the most part. Just the sound of the loom and the neighborhood outside. We just keep weaving and keeping the old ways alive in our own way.
