We are up here on the third floor of Panna Mane K. It’s right across from the Maa Ashapura Temple on Palace Road. If you know the area, you know it gets quite busy around here during the festival times. My father started this and now I’m here most days. It isn’t a huge showroom with fancy lights. It is just a small place where we keep the glass cases clean and wait for people to stop by after their prayers. Sometimes the stairs feel long at the end of the day. We spend a lot of time looking at small pieces under the lamp. It’s quiet work mostly, unless the temple bells are going. People come in to fix a chain or look for a small ring for a gift. We don't do much advertising. Most people just know we are here because they've been coming to Ashapura for years. The view from the window is mostly the temple roof and the tops of the trees. It’s okay. We keep things simple. Sometimes we run out of chai if too many cousins visit at once. That's just how it is. It's not a corporate office. It's a shop. We handle the metal and the stones and try to get the work done by the time the sun goes down. It's a living. I guess we have been here for about fifteen years now, and the building is showing its age, but we stay anyway.
