Precious Ornaments

Down at Anand Bhuvan on Pedak Road, things usually start pretty early. We are located in the Champaknagar area, specifically at number 3. It is a part of town that has a lot of movement, especially with all the people heading toward the main road. At Precious Ornaments, there is not a big staff or anything like that. It is mostly just us sitting at the small tables with our tools and the light from the window. The glass cases need cleaning every single morning because of the dust that blows in from the street. There are always little trays of rings or necklaces sitting around being worked on. We spend a lot of time looking through those magnifying lenses, which can make your eyes tired by the end of the day. The noise from Pedak Road is constant, but you get used to the sound of the rickshaws after a while. Sometimes the neighbors from the other shops stop by just to chat for a minute while we are sorting through different stones or polishing up some silver. It is quiet work in a noisy neighborhood. We do not have a fancy showroom with carpets. It is just a practical space where we handle the ornaments. At the end of the day, we put everything away in the heavy safe and lock up the iron shutters. It is a simple routine that we have been doing for years now. We usually grab some snacks from the vendor across the street before heading home.
