Uday Jawellers sits right on the Kisan Para Rescors Ring Road and if you know this area, you know how much traffic passes by. We spend our hours sitting behind the glass counters where everything is laid out. The lights inside the shop stay bright all day to make everything look clear, but sometimes the power goes out and we have to rely on the natural light coming through the front door. We spend a lot of time polishing the small items and making sure there are no fingerprints on the display cases. It’s a quiet kind of work compared to the noise of the Ring Road right outside. People come in mostly during the wedding season and that is when the shop feels a bit small for the crowd. We have a small fan in the corner that hums all day long. Usually, we are just sitting here waiting for the next person to walk in and ask about a ring or a chain. We don’t go for big advertisements or anything like that because word of mouth in Kisan Para is usually enough. The neighbors come by sometimes just to say hello or to borrow a chair for a few minutes. It feels like a small community even though the road is so big and busy. By the time we close up and pull down the heavy shutters, the street is finally starting to cool down a little bit.
