Our place is located at Plot No. 4 on Chaprajpur Road, out in the Bhojadhar area of Jetpur. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city center, but it gives us the space we need for our operations. We work in the textile printing sector, which Jetpur is pretty famous for. We have a large yard where we dry the fabrics after they’ve been dyed and printed. The weather plays a big role in our daily schedule. If it’s cloudy or rainy, everything slows down because the cloth won't dry right. We use traditional methods for some of our prints, so there’s a lot of manual work involved. Our hands are often stained with different colors by the end of the shift. The office is just a small room at the front of the plot where we keep the records and handle the paperwork. It gets quite hot during the summer, so we have a couple of big fans running all the time. We get our water from the local supply and have to manage it carefully for the washing processes. Most of the people working here live in the nearby villages. We’ve been at this survey number 614 for quite a while now. It’s a simple setup without any modern bells and whistles. We just focus on getting the colors right and making sure the fabric is handled properly. It’s a noisy and messy business, but it’s the life we chose.
