Gayatri Box Works

At Gayatri Box Works, we spend most of our days at 65, G.H.B., right across from H.J. Steel. It’s an industrial sort of spot, so there’s always noise from the trucks and machines. We make boxes, obviously. It’s dusty work and our hands are usually a bit rough from the cardboard and glue. We started out small and stayed that way because it's easier to manage. If you come by, you’ll see stacks of material waiting to be cut or folded. We don’t have a receptionist or a waiting room. You just walk in and talk to whoever isn’t currently running a machine. The heat gets to us in the summer, but we keep the fans going. It’s a straightforward business. People need boxes for their products, and we make them. We don't use fancy software for everything, sometimes just a pencil and a ruler works better to get the measurements right. Being opposite H.J. Steel makes it easy to give directions to people. We’ve been at this address for a long time. Some of the guys have been here since the start. We just take the orders as they come and try to get them out the door before the weekend. It’s not glamorous, but it’s what we know how to do well enough to keep going and pay the bills. The floor is usually covered in scraps, but we clean up every Saturday before heading home.
