Being located behind Innova Casting in Shapar means we are right in the middle of all the heavy industrial action. The plot at No. 4 is usually covered in some kind of metal dust or sand from the casting process. It’s a rough environment, and the noise from the neighbors is something you just learn to ignore after the first hour of work. We have a basic workshop area and a small shed that serves as the office. There are always pieces of scrap lying around and tools that someone forgot to put back on the rack. We spend our days mostly working with the machinery and checking the parts that come out of the molds. It’s hot work, especially when the sun is beating down on the corrugated metal roof. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the back to break up the sound of the machines. The tea guy comes by twice a day, and that’s usually when we actually stop to talk about something other than the workload. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people usually just find us by driving down the dirt road and looking for the sign. It’s a straightforward operation where we focus on getting the casting right and moving the heavy crates onto the trucks. Most of us go home with dirty hands and tired backs, but that’s just the nature of the industry here in Veraval.
