Gujarat Kirana Bhandar

Gujarat Kirana Bhandar has been at Stand Chowk by the Bokhla Gate for as long as most people around here can remember. It’s a traditional kind of shop. We deal in all the basics like grains, pulses, spices, and everything else you’d need for a kitchen. The area around Bokhla Gate is always moving, and our shop is right in the middle of that. We have sacks of rice and lentils sitting out, and the smell of spices is pretty strong when you walk in. It’s not a supermarket where you pick things off a shelf yourself. You usually just tell us what you need and we weigh it out for you. My family has been running this for years, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot, but the shop stays mostly the same. We know which families like which grade of rice and who wants their spices ground a certain way. It’s dusty work and we spend a lot of time cleaning up spilled flour or stacking heavy bags. Stand Chowk is a landmark for most people, so we’re easy to find. We don't bother with fancy packaging; we just focus on having the stuff people need for their daily meals. It’s a simple life, opening up early in the morning and seeing the same faces every day. We’re just a part of the daily routine for the folks living near the gate.
