Aegis Foods

Working here at 150 Ring Road means dealing with a lot of noise every day. Being near Imperial Heights is okay because everyone knows that landmark, so it's easy to explain where we are. Aegis Foods is where we spend most of our daylight hours lately. It’s not a glamorous setup, just a busy kitchen and some dry storage space in the back. We start very early in the morning when the road is still mostly quiet and the sun is just coming up. By ten o'clock, the traffic is moving fast and the kitchen is starting to get really hot. We usually have three or four different things going on at once. Sometimes the flour gets on everything, even my shoes and the back of my neck. It’s just how it goes when you're working with food all day. We have a small wooden table in the back where we take our breaks when we can. Usually, we're talking about what needs to be ordered for the next day or how the big fridge is making that weird clicking noise again. It’s a very practical place. We don't have fancy signs or bright flashing lights outside. People find us because they know where we are on the Ring Road. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time parking because the street is so crowded. We just manage. It’s a lot of lifting heavy bags and making sure nothing goes to waste. The floor needs a good scrubbing every single night.
