La Italia Marbles

Out here on the Attapur Ring Road, the traffic never really stops. La Italia Marbles is situated at number 208 in the Upperpally area. It’s a busy stretch of road and we spend a lot of our morning just watching the cars go by while we get the shop ready. The name might sound a bit grand, but the reality is just a lot of heavy lifting and moving stone around. We have slabs leaning against the walls and stacked in rows. Some are smooth, some are rough, and they all come in different sizes. When a customer comes in, we usually walk them through the rows. It can get a bit cramped when we have a lot of stock. The floor is always covered in a bit of grit from the stone, no matter how much we try to sweep it. It’s hard work, keeping track of everything. We don't have any fancy sales pitch or anything. We just show the material as it is. If there is a crack or a chip in a piece, we point it out. There’s no point hiding it. People in Upperpally usually know what they are looking for anyway. They touch the surface, check the thickness, and we talk about the price. That’s about it for a typical day here. We close up when the sun goes down and the ring road gets a bit quieter. It is a long day but we don't mind it much.
