Nova Batteries Pvt. Ltd. is situated at Pl No 76 on Road No 23 in Ida Kattedan. This part of Kattedan is full of factories, so it is always a bit gritty and industrial around here. We work with lead and acid all day, so we have to be very careful where we step and what we touch. The warehouse is filled with rows of battery casings and heavy metal plates. It is physical work, lifting these things and getting them ready for the charging process. We have these big charging stations that hum constantly throughout the shift. The air has a bit of a sharp, metallic smell to it, which you get used to after a week or so of working here. Our desks are tucked into a corner where it is a little quieter, but not much. We use a lot of distilled water and keep a close check on the meters. The trucks come in through the main gate on Road 23 to load up the finished batteries, and sometimes they block the whole path for everyone else. We have a small area where we keep our lunch boxes and a water cooler for the staff. It is not a glamorous job, but these batteries are needed for everything from cars to backup power. We spend a lot of time checking the seals and making sure the terminals are clean. The floor is mostly grey stone.
