Prime Timbers

If you come down to Gandhamguda Village, you will find our timber yard at Plot No 74 1. It is a big open space where we keep different kinds of wood stacked up high. The smell of sawdust is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have been at this location for a good while now, working out of Sy No 20/A. The machines for cutting and planning are pretty loud, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard over the noise. It is manual work, lifting heavy planks and moving them from the trucks to the storage racks. Rain is always a bit of a worry because we have to make sure the wood stays dry under the sheds. Sometimes the logs arrive and they are harder to cut than we expected, which slows everything down. We see a lot of local carpenters and builders who need specific lengths for their projects. Gandhamguda is a quiet enough place, but our yard stays active with people coming and going. We don’t have a big office or anything, just a small desk where we keep the ledgers and notes. Most days are spent outside on the floor, checking the grain of the wood or helping load a customer's vehicle. It is a tiring job but there is something okay about working with your hands and seeing the raw wood turn into something useful.
