Living and working at Jaykaypuram is a different kind of life. My address is Q.No. Ne 32, right here in the JK Lakshmi Cement colony. Most of us who live here are part of the daily grind at the plant. It’s out in Sirohi district, so it’s pretty quiet away from the machinery. The dust is something you just get used to when you’re in the cement business. We spend our days watching the kilns and making sure the bags are filled. The village nearby is small, so most of our social life happens right here in the quarters. It’s a large site, and sometimes it takes a while to walk from the house to where the actual work happens. The Rajasthan sun can be brutal in May, but the work doesn't stop. We've got folks here who have been at this for twenty years. My neighbor works in the lab, and I’m usually near the loading docks. We aren't doing anything fancy, just keeping the supply moving for all the construction going on elsewhere. If you’re looking for the place, just head toward Jaykaypuram. Everyone knows where the plant is. It’s a big part of the landscape around here. We just go about our shift, come home to the quarters, and start again the next morning. It’s steady, predictable work, and that’s fine by us. There is always someone around if you need to ask a question.
