Out here in Kurli village, things are a bit different than the big city offices. We are based in the Bulandshahr district, and it’s a quiet place most of the time. Our office is basically a post-stop for the construction work happening in this part of Uttar Pradesh. You won’t find any neon signs or fancy carpets here. It’s just a sturdy building where we keep our tools and our records. The roads around here can be a bit rough, so we spend a lot of time making sure our vehicles are running okay. Most of the people working here are used to the rural life. We know the local farmers and the shopkeepers nearby. When we aren't out at a site, we are probably sitting here drinking chai and looking over some blueprints that have seen better days. The work is hard and it’s often dirty. There is a lot of mud in the rainy season and a lot of dust in the dry months. We don’t have a big corporate philosophy or anything like that. We just know that the bridges and the buildings aren't going to build themselves. It takes a lot of manual labor and some careful planning. We just take it one day at a time, making sure the supplies are there and the men are working safely. It’s a simple life.
