Shriram Rayons

Rakesh Kumar Jakhar runs things here in the village of Dhamora. We are out in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, which means it gets pretty hot in the summer and quite cold in the winter. Our mail comes to the post office right here in the village. Dealing with rayons and textiles in this part of the state keeps us busy enough. It’s not like a big city factory where everything is automated and cold. Here, everyone knows Rakesh and his family, especially his father Beerbal Ram Jakhar. We work out of our space in the village, and many of the people who help us are neighbors we’ve known our whole lives. Life in Dhamora moves at its own pace. Sometimes the power goes out or the roads get dusty, but the work continues. We focus on the materials and making sure the quality is what it needs to be for the people buying from us. We don’t spend money on fancy advertisements or big signs. Most of our business comes from people who heard about us from someone else. It is a family-run kind of thing, very grounded in the local community. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the crops as much as we talk about business. It is a simple life but it’s ours. We stay busy with the rayon orders and try to keep everyone happy with what we provide. It’s just honest work in our home village.
