Sri Meena Surgical Cotton is right here on Ashok Meenakshi Talkies Street. Most people know the old theater, so it’s easy to find us at number 96. We’ve been working with cotton for a long time now. It’s not the most glamorous job, dealing with raw fibers and big rolls all day, but it’s what we do. The air in the workshop usually has little bits of lint floating around. We make sure the cotton is clean and cut right for whoever needs it. Some days are busier than others when the big orders come in from the local clinics. We don't have a big fancy office or anything. It's just a practical space where we get the work done. The street outside can get quite loud with the traffic, especially in the evenings. We usually start early in the morning before the heat gets too bad. It's a small team here. We know each other well and we just get on with the tasks. We aren't trying to change the world, just making sure there's enough surgical cotton for the hospitals nearby. Sometimes the machinery acts up and we have to spend half the morning fixing a belt or oiling the parts. That’s just how it goes when you’ve been running for a while. We keep things simple and try to be honest about what we can provide. If you walk past, you will probably see us loading bundles onto a small truck.
