Sri Raja Rajeswari Nursery

Our nursery is out on the way from Damiredddypalli towards Kadiyapulanka, about two kilometers down. It’s a green spot in the middle of a lot of open land. If you like plants, this is where we spend all our time. We grow a lot of different things, from small saplings to bigger trees. The ground is always a bit damp because of the watering, so you have to watch your step or you’ll get mud on your shoes. We don't have a big office building. We mostly have sheds and a lot of outdoor space for the pots. It’s hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on us. My hands are usually stained with dirt, but that’s part of the job. We don’t have a fancy catalog with glossy pictures. We just show people what’s growing in the rows. Sometimes the birds get into the seeds, and we have to shoo them away. It’s a quiet life compared to the city. We wake up when the sun comes up to start the watering. The road out here isn't always the smoothest, but it brings people who are looking for something green for their homes. We’ve been doing this for years, just planting and watching things grow. It’s not a fast business. You have to be patient with the weather and the soil. We just take it one season at a time and hope for good rain to keep everything healthy.
