Akira Eye Hospital

In Aryapuram, Rajahmundry, over in East Godavari, we have Akira Eye Hospital. It’s a place where a lot of people come to get their eyes checked. The sun in Rajahmundry can be really bright, so many people walk in squinting. We have a front desk where we take down everyone’s details. The waiting room has rows of chairs, and they usually fill up by mid-morning. It’s not a quiet place. There is always the sound of people talking or the receptionist calling out names. We have different rooms for testing vision. Some of the machines are quite big and they beep a lot. We spend our time moving from one room to another, making sure the lights are right for the exams. It’s a lot of "can you read this line" and "is this better or worse." We don’t use a lot of fancy talk. We just try to explain things clearly to the patients. The building in Aryapuram is a sturdy one. It’s been here for a bit. We keep the floors mopped because of all the foot traffic. Sometimes the heat in East Godavari gets to be a lot, so we keep the fans going at full speed. At the end of the shift, we double-check the files and make sure the lenses are all put away. It’s just steady work, day in and day out, helping people see a bit better.
