Our setup is over in Rajiv Gandhi Ward No. 16, right behind the Bajrang Power Plant in the Urla industrial area. If you’re coming down Sarora Road, you can usually see the smoke from the plants nearby. It’s a very heavy industrial part of Urla, so there’s always big trucks carrying coal or steel rolling past our gate. The ground here is mostly black from the soot, and you have to wash your hands about ten times a day. We handle gum chemicals, so the air inside our unit has a specific kind of smell to it. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The office is just a small corner partitioned off with some plywood where we keep the ledger books. We spend most of the time out on the floor making sure the mixing and packing is going okay. It gets incredibly loud because of the power plant next door, so you have to shout to be heard sometimes. We’ve got a small area out front where the workers sit during their break. It’s a rough environment, honestly, but everyone here is used to the heat and the noise. We just focus on getting the batches done and loaded onto the trucks before the rain starts or the shift ends.
