Shri Shanti Poha Udyogh

If you come down to Village Basantpur near the Dongargaon Road, you will find Shri Shanti Poha Udyogh right by the subzi mandi. It is a lively spot to work because the vegetable market is always humming with people and carts. We started this small unit because there was plenty of rice coming through this area. The building is an old one, but we have kept it in good shape over the years. We focus on making poha, which means there is a lot of soaking and flattening going on from dawn until dusk. The smell of fresh produce from the market next door mixes with the earthy scent of our grains. My nephew handles the books while I spend most of my time on the floor checking the quality of the batches. We don't have a fancy website or any of that, we just rely on the people who have been buying from us for years. Sometimes the mud in the rainy season makes it hard for the tractors to get close to the door, so we have to carry the heavy sacks by hand. It keeps us strong, I suppose. The workers here are like family, and we often share tea while the machines are cooling down. It is not a glamorous job, but it is honest work that keeps the local kitchens supplied. We just try to do right by the folks who depend on us every single week.
