Over in Padmanabhpur, things are a bit quieter than in the bigger parts of Durg. We are based at LIG-411, which is a standard residential-style building that we've used for our ceramic work for years. Ceramics is a dusty business, there is no way around it. No matter how much we clean, there is always a fine layer of white powder on the shelves and the windowsills. We don't mind it because it shows we’re actually working. Our day usually starts before the sun gets too high, because the kilns make the place even hotter than the Chhattisgarh heat outside. It’s a small operation, mostly just a few of us who have learned the trade over time. We don't have a showroom with bright lights and pedestals. If you want to see what we have, you just walk into the back and look at the stacks. It’s hard work that leaves your hands feeling rough at the end of the day. We’ve been part of this community in Durg for a long time now. Most people know where the LIG quarters are, so we are easy enough to find. We don't do much advertising. People just hear about us from their neighbors or friends. It’s a slow process, making these pieces, but we don't like to rush things. We focus on getting the firing right even if it takes a bit longer than expected.
