Our factory, M. M. Polymers Pvt Ltd, is tucked away in Village Deopuri, just off Mana Road in Raipur. Being out here means we have more space than we would in the city, which is good for the big machines we run. The road out here can be a bit bumpy, especially after the monsoon rains, but we've gotten used to the drive over the years. You can see the fields from our back gate, which is a nice change from the industrial smoke you get elsewhere. We have a small group of workers from the local village who have been with us for years. The sound of the plastic granulators is the main thing you hear all day long. It's a loud environment, so we do a lot of shouting just to be heard over the hum. We have a small office section at the front where the air conditioning works most of the time, provided the power doesn't go out. Raipur gets incredibly hot in the summer, and the tin roof of the shed doesn't help much, but we keep the cold water cooler filled. We mostly deal with bulk orders for plastic items, so there are always trucks backing into the loading bay. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing the raw material turn into finished goods by the end of the shift.
