Central Book House

Central Book House has been in Sadar Bazar for a long time. If you know the market, you probably know where we are. It’s a busy spot, and there’s always someone walking by or looking in the window. We sell books, mostly for school and general reading. The shop is small, and the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. We have to use a wooden ladder to reach the ones at the very top, and it creaks a bit every time. I took over from my father, and not much has changed since his time. We still use the same wooden counter, and the floor is a bit uneven in the back. Sadar Bazar is a loud place, with vendors shouting and bikes honking, but once you step inside, it’s a little bit quieter. We don't have a computerized system or anything like that. We just know our stock by heart. If someone asks for a specific title, I usually know exactly which pile it’s in. We get a lot of students coming in looking for textbooks, and we try to keep prices fair for them. It’s not a business that will make us rich, but it’s what we know how to do. Sometimes we just sit on the stools out front and watch the people go by when it’s slow. It’s a good way to spend the day and stay connected with the neighborhood.
