BSS Spun Silk is out in the Hirapur area of Raipur. If you go near Nagorao, you’ll find us. Shripad Shenwai is the one who usually looks after the estate here. We work with silk, specifically spun silk, which is a whole process in itself. It’s not like those high-end boutiques you see in the malls. Our place is more of a working estate where the real labor happens. The smell of the fibers and the sound of the machinery is what we wake up to. We’ve been here in Raipur for a bit, just doing our thing. It’s a bit dusty and loud sometimes, but that’s the nature of the silk business. We don't have a marketing department writing fancy stories about us. We just process the silk and get it ready for whoever needs it next. It’s a traditional kind of job that’s been around forever. Sometimes the harvest of cocoons isn't great and we have to scramble, but that’s just part of the trade. We aren't looking to become a global conglomerate. We just want to produce good silk and keep our workers busy. The estate is a practical place, not a showpiece. If you come by, you’ll see people working hard and probably get offered a cup of chai. We are just local people keeping a traditional industry going in Hirapur. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do for a living.
