Bhatia Rice Industries

Bhatia Rice Industries is situated over at Plot No. Hig-1 in the Lalbagh area. If you know where GE Road is, we are just a short distance from there. Being so close to a main road like that means there is always noise from the traffic, which you just learn to ignore after a few weeks. The work here is mostly about the processing. We have the big equipment set up on the plot and it stays busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes even Sundays if there is a lot to catch up on. It gets hot in the sheds, especially during the summer months when the metal roofs soak up all that heat. We spend our time moving the grain around and keeping an eye on the moisture levels. It’s not a very clean job, and you end up with bits of husk in your hair and clothes by the end of the shift. But it’s honest work and it keeps us busy. Lalbagh is a busy little pocket and being at Hig-1 puts us right in the middle of things. We don’t have a big office or anything, just a small space to sit down and do the accounts. Most of the real work happens out on the floor where the machines are. It's just a regular industrial setup with people trying to get their tasks finished before the sun goes down for the day.
