We are based at the JSPL Guest House on Kharsia Road in Raigarh. This area is very much tied to the industrial work going on nearby, especially with the steel plant. The guest house is where we spend our days, making sure the rooms are ready and the kitchen is stocked for the people who stay here. Kharsia Road can get quite dusty because of all the heavy trucks moving back and forth, but we try to keep the inside as clean as possible. It’s a very functional place, built for people who are here for work rather than a vacation. We handle the laundry, the cleaning, and the basic cooking for the guests. There’s a bit of a routine to it, starting early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. Raigarh has a very specific feel to it, being an industrial town, and our guest house reflects that practical nature. We don't have any grand ideas about service; we just make sure there is hot water and a clean bed. The staff is mostly local, and we speak to each other in a mix of Hindi and the local dialect. Sometimes the power goes out when the weather is bad, and we have to switch over to the generators. It’s a simple life out here on Kharsia Road, just keeping the guest house running day in and day out for the travelers who pass through the area.
