Chetan & Company

Out here in Usar Village, we are just a short walk away from the main market in Alibag Taluka. This part of Raigarh is usually quite green and nice, but our shop is a bit more dusty and practical for everyday work. We have been here for a long time and most of the locals know us by name. The building is a simple structure that stays relatively cool even when the summer sun is out. We keep a variety of goods that people from the village need for their daily lives or their small businesses. There is always a stack of notebooks on the counter for keeping track of what people owe or what we need to order from the city next. The air smells like the sea sometimes when the wind blows from the right direction in the evening. We spend our days talking to the villagers and helping them find what they are looking for among the shelves. It is not the kind of place where people are in a big hurry. We might spend ten minutes just talking about the rain or the local news before any business actually happens. We have a small wooden bench outside where older folks sometimes sit for a bit of shade. The floor is made of rough concrete and we sweep it out every morning before we start. It is a quiet life here, but we like being part of it.
